October 11-15/2006
reported by Shuji Imamoto (Chairperson of ECOLO Japan)
The Chairperson of ECOLO Japan (Japan Greens) and the staffs visited
Brussels in Belgium and
Switzerland in Geneva in October 2006, in order to participate in 2nd
European Greens Congress.
We could exchange with a lot of Green members in Europe, particularly
among young Greens.
In Brussels
We visited different Greens' offices in Brussels. First, we met Belgian
Greens "ECOLO" office in Brussels.
There we talked each other for some time, heard the report of the local election of Brussels in October.
This is the first meeting between the original "ECOLO" and
our "ECOLO" members.

Second, we visited Belgian national Parliament and met the youngest
Green deputy member, Zoe Genot.
She became a member of national Parliament in 2003 and continue to
work, focusing on human rights issues.
She guided us around the both Parliament Houses (Upper and Lower) of Belgium.
They were dignified and magnificient.
Thereafter we visited European Parliament and met Frithjof Schmidt MEP (German Greens).
He suggested us
how to develop a Green party in the country and obtain more supporters. His assistant Janna guided us
the European Parliament House. We could see the debate of plenary session (of human rights in Russia)
there.
In the evening, we could hold a meeting with two spokespersons of young Greens in Belgium.
Both of them were candidates of local election but they failed. Nevertheless, we were welcomed by them and
talked about how to invite young members in the political movement,
in their office and a Bier Bar in downtown.
