Japan Young Greens participated in Global Young Greens
Conference in Nairobi
January 16-19th 2007
The 12 basic principles of Global Young Greens (GYG)
1) Protection and restoration of the environment and respect towards animals
2) Sustainable, equitable and just development
3) Social Justice
4) Grassroots, participatory and global democracy, and in particular
empowering young people to participate and build more democratic
societies
5) Peaceful and non-military conflict resolution, arms control, disarmament
6) Gender justice, empowerment of women
7) Inter-generational justice, empowerment of youth and children
8) Freedom from discrimination on any grounds whatsoever, and equality for all
9) Empowerment of marginalised and disadvantaged people.
10) Just globalisation and fair trade
11) Personal freedom on the basis of universal human rights
12) The right of all people to self-determination particularly indigenous
people.
The objectives of Global Young Greens (GYG)
Empower young people within the framework of participatory democracy
Create a space for young people to be active without being dominated by older generations
Address inequalities in the resources of organisations and activists
Forge strong links between sectors and organisations
Further the Green principles on planet Earth
Global Young Greens Network should be composed of every Green organisation
and Green activists
participated in the Nairobi Conference, including not only Green
Party members but NGOs and
individuals.
After long discussion, they decided that every participant could have the rights to vote.
To their regret, only 4 members from American Continent (three Canadians
and one from Argentina)
joined the Conference this time.
Anyway they enjoyed camping and talking every day and night, although
there was no technological
equippments for the accomodation in the nature.
The Global Young Greens Network selected 14 members of Steering
Committee from every
Continent.equally.
From Asia-Pacific Area, Caroline Ayling (Conference organiser) and
one from Nepal, Pakistan
and Kilgistan were elected as a GYG Steering Committee member.

Japan Young Greens (JYG), the young Greens branch of ECOLO Japan ― the Japan Greens ― visited Nairobi, Kenya in order to participate in the
Global Young Greens Conference held in 16-19th January, just before opening the World Social Forum (WSF).
The Conference was sponsored by
Heinrich Boell Foundation and
European Green Party (EGP), gathered more than 150 young ecologists under 35 years old from every
Continent, exchanged their friendship in the Camping Area outside the city
of Nairobi.
In the Conference many workshops and discussions were held, such as climate
change, free trade problem, water issue,. gender equality and African issue
etc.
At the same time, the Global Young Greens Charter, 12 basic principles and objectives, charter and statutes of
GYG (Global Young Greens) were determined.
